As many readers of the T-Gazette may know, the Hull Family of Gallatin, NY lost their home to a fire on July 14th. Ed and Deti Hull and their children Deia (16), Natalie (8), and Walter (5), lost most of their possessions in the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the family has found a temporary home with Ed’s mother, Ruth.
Many friends and neighbors immediately mobilized to help the Hull family get back on their feet. Clothing, bedding, furnishings and other essentials were collected by community members. Deia, who lost her clarinet in the fire, has already been given a replacement instrument.
This past Saturday a fundraising pasta dinner was held at the Taghkanic Firehouse, organized by Nancy Griffith and the Fire Station support group. Over 100 meals were served to people who either collected meals to take home or stayed and shared a meal with the Hull family and others. More than $4000 was collected for the family. This effort came together over a matter of days.
Community efforts continue to support the Hull family. A GoFundMe campaign was established by Cheryl Werner from Germantown, where the kids go to school. To date, over $12,000 has been collected.
It’s a long road back to normal for the Hull Family, but with local community support they are well on their way. Please continue to support the Hull family by contributing to their GoFundMe account (Hull Family House Fire) or by sending donations directly to Ed Hull Family c/o Ruth Hull 2568 County Route 8, Elizaville, NY 12523.
Thank-you to the many individuals (some pictured here) who volunteered to make this event a big success!
