Kara Gilmore, a member of the Financial Advisory Committee for the Town of Taghkanic, is a proud native of the Show-Me State, where she earned her law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After graduating, Kara clerked for a federal judge, and then practiced corporate law before changing careers to work with dogs. Kara and her wife, Nadja, moved to Taghkanic in 2009 where they founded and own two small businesses, The Marvelous Mutts, and Hudson Valley Dog Farm. Taghkanic has allowed her to strike a perfect balance between life and the work she loves.
As an attorney, Kara routinely analyzed complex issues to find common-sense solutions. As the co-owner of small businesses, she has honed her budgeting, financial management, and strategic-planning skills. Her experience on the Taghkanic Financial Advisory Committee, small-business sensibilities, and problem-solving skills gives her a head start to keeping the Town on budget and creating a healthy climate for small businesses. She hopes to build on the strong sense of community and pride she has found in Taghkanic.
