County Changes from Code Red Alert System to NY Alert System

Updated: Aug 31, 2020

Contributed by Linda Swartz, Town Board

If you currently receive notification regarding weather-related and other emergency warnings via the Code Red Alert system to your cellphone or landline, be advised that Columbia County is changing its public emergency alert system from Code Red to NY Alert beginning August 29.

In addition to the weather-related and emergency notifications, the NY Alert system will provide additional informational alert options including AMBER alerts, sex-offender relocation and road closure information. The change will save the County more than $32,000 a year.

Landline phones will begin receiving the alerts automatically beginning August 29. If you currently receive the alerts on your cellphone, you will need to go to www.alert.ny.gov/enroll to register. Registration is available now in order to prepare for the August 29 change.
