The Columbia Land Conservancy is excited to announce two upcoming hunter education courses this month, co-hosted with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. These courses are specifically designed to introduce conservation-minded individuals to the world of hunting, where CLC’s President Troy Weldy will serve as the lead instructor.

Both courses will cover the necessary fundamentals and safety techniques for hunting with a rifle or bow, as well as outdoor safety and hunter responsibility toward wildlife, the environment, and the public.

After successful completion of each respective program, participants will be able to take the test to receive the New York State Hunter Education Certificate and Bowhunter Education Certificate of Qualification.

These programs will take place in the hunting cabin on the property, which is accessible by car. If individuals prefer to walk or have a low clearance vehicle, the path to the cabin is approximately a third of a mile over gravel terrain. Please bring a folding chair, a water bottle, a bagged lunch, and weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. Bringing a way to take notes is recommended for this program!

Please visit ColumbiaLand.org/Events to register and learn more about each program, including their required homework assignments, accessibility information, and what to bring.
