The following vacancy is announced in the Taconic Region, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation:

  • TITLE: Trades Assistant (Park and Recreation Aide 4)

  • HOURLY RATE: $17.95/hour

  • WORK LOCATION: Lake Taghkanic State Park, Columbia County

  • NEGOTIATING UNIT: CSEA, NU03 (Operational Services Unit)


  • TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Year-Round Seasonal


Under the direction of the Trades Generalist, the employee will:

  • Perform apprentice-level work in a primary trade in one of the following areas: plumbing, carpentry, or masonry and plaster.

  • Assist the Trades Generalist with specific and targeted cabin and cottage rehab projects at Lake Taghkanic State Park.

  • Use hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate to the assigned trade.

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of projects; carpentry repairs, including to but not limited to roofing, siding, and foundation repairs; plumbing and masonry repairs; and clean up.

  • Complete additional duties as needed.

  • .Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.

  • Must be able to work from scaffolding or ladders.

  • Must be able to work with the Trades Generalist, but also work independently under their direction.

  • Must communicate effectively with other staff.

  • Must communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.
