Taghkanic talks is excited to present a program on the Taghkanic Headwaters Conservation Plan on Saturday, June 15, at 10:00 AM at the West Taghkanic Firehouse, 631 Old Route 82, West Taghkanic. The headwaters of the Taghkanic Creek takes in an area that includes large portions of the Towns of Copake, Hillsdale and Taghkanic and a part of Claverack as well. It is an ecologically rich landscape that provides numerous benefits to the natural and human environments. The Conservation Plan identifies and explains the importance of these ecological assets, describes significant threats to those assets and steps that anyone who lives in the area can take to maintain and improve the health and vitality of the land. Development of the Conservation Plan was sponsored by the Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) and guided by a group of citizen representatives from the four Towns. There will also be a presentation about a significant conservation project the organization is planning for the Taghkanic headwaters area - the creation of a 500+ acre community forest.
