Re: Advance Notice – West Taghkanic Bridge Closure for Replacement
County Route 10 over Taghkanic Creek, Town of Taghkanic
Date: June 23, 2021
Please be advised that as a part of the Columbia County Department of Public Works ongoing and perennial efforts to replace and/or rehabilitate it’s population of aging, structurally deficient and/or functionally obsolete public bridge structures, we will begin the construction of the replacement of our West Taghkanic Bridge, carrying Columbia County Rte. 10 over the Taghkanic Creek, in July of this year. West Taghkanic Bridge is located in the Town of Taghkanic, approximately 200 feet east of the intersection of Co. Rte. 10 and NYS Rte. 82.
This 66 year-old County Bridge has had a problematic reduced load posting of 25 tons for several years, and suffers from numerous steadily deteriorating structural deficiencies, thus is in need of complete replacement. In order to replace this structure, we will need to close the bridge and Co. Rte. 10 at the bridge approaches, with all Co. Rte. 10 traffic being re-routed temporarily on an off-site detour. The posted off-site detour will traverse Co. Rte.10, Old 82, Cross Street and Churchtown Road, and will be utilized for the estimated 4-5 month duration of this bridge replacement project.
County Route 10 will be closed to through traffic on July 7, 2021 through November 2021.
