After serving two years as a member of the Taghkanic Town Board, Doug Craig decided in December to resign his position, effective January 1, 2026. His mobility has been increasingly limited by the effects of muscular dystrophy and has progressed to the point where it is difficult for him to drive a vehicle, to get around town, and to engage with the community in the way that he would like to as a town representative. During his tenure, Doug was an engaged and committed member of the Board, working hard to support the town in many ways, including grant writing and helping to streamline our Zoning Code review process. Doug will continue to contribute to the town with grant writing, zoning code revisions, maintaining the town website and Tgazette, and participation on the Climate Smart Committee.

After issuing a call for and reviewing letters of interest to fill the vacant seat, the Board agreed unanimously at the last meeting in December to appoint Hannah Calhoun to fill the position. Hannah’s term will run through the end of 2026.

Born and raised in Chatham, Hannah has been a Columbia County resident for most of her adult life and has lived in Taghkanic for seven years with her family. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and brings nonprofit leadership experience focused on community mobilization, public health, and human services. Throughout her career, Hannah has served on numerous boards and committees addressing mental health and substance use, alternatives to incarceration, and the allocation of county settlement funds. She also serves as a private sector board member of Community Action of Greene County. Hannah is passionate about building prosperous, thriving communities and is honored to serve on the Town Board to help support a strong future for Taghkanic residents.

We are grateful to Doug and Hannah for their commitment and support of our town.
