Launch letter went out to al Columbia County Short-Term Rentals (STRS), hotels and motels notifying them of the registration requirement.

Media release announcing implementation of occupancy tax.
July 1, 2025
Columbia County 4% occupancy tax wil be collected for al STR rentals effective this date.
August 1, 2025
First Notice / registration follow-up
September 1, 2025
Second Notice / notice of non-compliance
October 1, 2025
Final Notice / notice of violation
Who needs to register?
Al individuals and business entities that rent their building, or rooms in their
building, to be used on a short-term basis (in Columbia County this means rentals under 30 consecutive days) must register and pay the occupancy tax. If you own multiple properties for rental in Columbia County a separate registration is needed for each address.
Are there any exceptions?
STRS ni Hudson are regulated by the City of Hudson Occupancy Tax and collection process. They are not required to register with Columbia County or to collect the county tax.

How long do I have to register?
30 days from June 1, 2025. After that date you could be subject to penalties.
