Find Out What Science Tells Us About
The Ecological Impacts of Pesticides
with Neuroscientist & Biologist
Dr. Kathleen Susman
November 15, 1 PM, Ancram Town Hall
While our economy relies increasingly on chemical pesticides to manage what we consider unwanted life-forms, they are also known to cause harm to all life-forms—from soil microbes, insects and birds, to our pets and our human selves. Kathleen Susman, neurobiologist and Vassar College professor of biology, will discuss what scientific studies tells us about the effects of pesticides on humans and all life, impacts that are often intergenerational. She will also engage us in a brainstorming discussion about positive steps we can take to reduce or eliminate pesticide use in our gardens and landscapes, and how we can best show our support for farmers who are operating pesticide-free or who are in transition to reducing or eliminating their use. Please come with your ideas and an open mind!
Visit Professor Susman’s blog, Modern Marinade, where you can also listen to her podcast series, “Toxic Lawns.”
