Get involved with the Taghkanic Volunteer Fire Company

The Taghkanic Gazette

The Taghkanic Volunteer Fire Company (TFC) services about 2/3 of the area of Taghkanic and about ¼ the area of Gallatin. Craryville and Churchtown Fire Companies service the remaining portions of the Town of Taghkanic. All firefighters in Columbia County are volunteers as are approximately 75% of all firefighters in the USA.

There are many ways to participate in the TFC. There are 23 active members. Most are interior firefighters, but some provide assistance outside of burning buildings whether it be first aid, traffic control or compliance with general safety standards. Most of TFC calls are related to accidents on the Taconic State Parkway or town roads. But we are true first responders. Calls have included water rescues on Lake Taconic, lightning strikes, cardiac arrests and opioid overdoses. The TFC responds to about 60-80 calls a year.

In addition, there is an approximately 20 person Support Group to help with fundraising and non-firematic issues (e.g. supplying food and beverages at fire calls of unusual duration),

Being a member of TFC is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and contribute to the Town.
