On August 8th 4-8PM, the Roe Jan SummerFest will take place in the railroad depot area around 32 Anthony Street. It’s an exciting event that celebrates the best drink, food and fun that the area has to offer. This indoor/outdoor event will feature beverages from numerous wine, beer, spirits, and cider producers in Columbia County and beyond. Food will be abundant with Authentic Eats by Oleg and Tommy B’s Pizza as well as the fare on the menus of Roe Jan Brewing Co and Twisted Sisters Coffee House. Stewart’s Shops is generously donating ice cream cones for the enjoyment of all.

With a purchased ticket ($25 in advance, $35 at the door), adults may sample from dozens of beverages on hand while enjoying live music and browsing through the craft vendors. Like what you sampled? Bring home a 6-pack or a bottle. Folks who want to join in on the fun without consuming drinks can participate with a “teetotaler” ticket for just $10. Advance tickets are available at www.roejansummerfest.com and also at the door on the day of the event.
Activities are planned for adults and children alike, making this a great family day. Kids (youngsters 12 and under get in free) will love the talented face painter, Tracey Hanselman, and Tarot-card reader, Prudence Mohr. Compete on several cornhole setups while enjoying a hand-painted photo cutout board, and live music from Shakedown Citi, a popular Grateful Dead tribute band. Leashed dogs are welcomed, too.
A selection of specialty vendors will join the fun, including Asia Luna Natural Body Products, widely known for their giant bubble kits and terrific dog shampoo.
The RoeJan SummerFest has three major sponsors: Columbia County Tourism, Roe Jan Brewing Co., and Twisted Sisters Coffee House. Other local sponsors include Kneller’s Insurance, Hillsdale General Store, Hillsdale Home Chef, Books & Cake, Todd Farrell’s Car Care, Ed Herrington Inc, Peace Mountain Yoga, and US Foods. Businesses interested in sponsoring may email to RoeJanSummerFest@gmail.com for the details and sponsorship form.
The proceeds from this year’s event are earmarked for three deserving organizations: Harlem Valley Rail Trail, a rail trail potentially running 46 miles from Wassaic to Village of Chatham; Friends of East Gate, established to stabilize, preserve, and restore the historic 1799 East Gate Toll House; and Columbia Kitchen, preparing and delivering nearly 9,000 meals each month throughout the City of Hudson, and all 23 towns and four villages in Columbia County.
Visit www.roejansummerfest.com for tickets and information.
Creating a full day of fun in Hillsdale, from 10AM-4PM, the annual Hillsdale ArtsWalk is taking place, up the road in the Hillsdale Village Square. It’s an indoor/outdoor event celebrating the talented artists and artisans in our area. Live music by local musicians will entertain the guests.
This non-profit, volunteer-run organization provides an artist showcase for local artists to share their work with a large and diverse audience. Attendees can expect to browse and purchase everything from oils, watercolors, collage to ceramics, jewelry, pottery, woodcraft and more.
Visit www.facebook.com/hillsdalenyartswalk more information on the artists expected to exhibit.
The combination of the ArtsWalk from 10AM-4PM and the Roe Jan SummerFest from 4-8PM will make for an exciting day for Hillsdale and Columbia County.
