Did you know that most of the so-called Taghkanic Basket makers actually lived in Gallatin?

Please join us on September 26th at 2 pm at Gallatin’s Town hall to hear Maryann Proper Barto, daughter of one of the last known basket makers, Elizabeth Proper, speak on the lives of her ancestors. Maryann has written two books of a planned series based on the lives and legends surrounding her grandparents and their community, A Story from a Basket Maker’s Daughter, The Hill and The Hill, Trying Times. In her talk, Maryann will illuminate for a modern audience the history and customs of this mysterious group of people who lived apart from surrounding communities for over two centuries.
